CDC's Collaboration with Academia to Strengthen Public Health Workforce Capacity

The purpose of this FOA is to advance the educational preparation of public health, medical, and baccalaureate and higher degree nursing students and provide opportunities that strengthen population health and public health practice competencies through innovative approaches which include, but are not

credit:


limited to:
1) improved integration of public/population health concepts into health profession education, 2) hands-on experience for students and emerging health professionals, as well as faculty development opportunities, working with communities, professionals from related disciplines, and public health partners to address the leading causes of death and illness, 3) specific additional projects funded by CDC programs that provide workforce development opportunities in academic or public health practice settings or that introduce public health careers, and 4) programs that provide fellowships and rotational assignments at CDC's domestic offices, state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments, or in other community-based settings.

The overall goal is to create the opportunities for academia to develop qualified, knowledgeable and experienced students and emerging health professionals suitably prepared to serve in governmental public health practice, or able to apply public health concepts in various healthcare or other settings, to collectively meet the challenge of improving the population’s health.

Additional Information on EligibilityThe intent of this FOA is to fund national organizations that represent domestic schools and programs for the education of public health professionals, physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals so that students and emerging health professionals in these target groups will be better prepared to improve the public's health.

Eligible applicants are groups and organizations that are: A national voice and representative organization for their respective accredited academic constituency member schools or programs; able to demonstrate evidence of existing and prior collaboration with all or the majority of accredited schools or programs of public health, accredited medical colleges, and, accredited colleges of nursing at the baccalaureate or higher level; National in scope to ensure the broadest coverage; Engaged in established liaison relationships with related accreditation agency for their respective professional target audience; Experienced in implementing community-based activities to improve health; Experienced in convening deans or representative faculty of respective academic constituency schools; Experience with influencing curriculum standards or requirements of membership schools; Experience in working across disciplines at the national, regional, state, and/or community level to improve health; and Possess the organizational and administrative capacity, skill, and expertise to perform the stated activities contained in the funding announcement.
