Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks is a state agency with a mission to provide for the stewardship of the fish, wildlife, parks and recreational resources of Montana, while contributing to the quality
of life for present and future generations.
As part of its mission, Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks owns and manages state parkland within Montana, including eight sites that are designated as National Historic Landmarks.
As such, the National Park Service can only work directly with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks regarding preservation activities associated with these eight National Historic Landmarks, since the state agency is the owner of these sites.
The National Historic Landmarks owned and managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks are:
Travelers Rest National Historic Landmark (state park), Pictograph Cave National Historic Landmark (state park), Rosebud Battlefield National Historic Landmark (state park), Three Forks of the Missouri National Historic Landmark (managed as Missouri Headwaters State Park), Bannack National Historic Landmark (state park), Chief Plenty Coups Home National Historic Landmark (state park), Great Falls Portage National Historic Landmark (within Giant Springs State Park), and Anaconda Smoke Stack (interpretive site within the Butte-Anaconda National Historic Landmark district).
