Limited Competition for the Continuation of the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort Scientific and Data Coordinating Center (U24)
The purpose of this Limited Competition is to extend the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study by continuing to support the Scientific and Data Coordinating Center.
The CRIC Study is a multi-center, prospective, observational cohort study of men and women with chronic kidney disease
(CKD).
The operational components of the study include seven Clinical Centers and a Scientific and Data Coordinating Center (SDCC).
The CRIC Study, established in 2001, has recruited approximately 5,500 study participants and followed them with annual in-person clinic visits and interim telephone contacts.
The SDCC provides key leadership functions for this study in the areas of study organization, study design and implementation, overall management, and data management and analysis.
The CRIC Clinical Centers will continue to follow-up previously enrolled participants under a separate FOA with a focus on developing novel methods for clinical assessment of CKD and associated cardiovascular diseases (CVD) risk factors.
It is expected that these novel assessment methods, combined with new analytic approaches, will identify endophenotypes of CKD, develop associations with CKD progression and acute kidney injury, and more fully characterize these diseases and their associated cardiovascular sequalae.
It is anticipated that these studies will provide important insights into the courses and consequences of CKD and CVD for both health care providers and their patients with CKD to improve their management, including informing future clinical trials to reduce the burden of these chronic and varied diseases.
The SDCC will lead the study group to achieve the scientific goals of the next project period.
