Eligibility Requirements
Applicant Eligibility
Eligible applicants include museums whose primary purpose is African American life, art, history, and/or culture, encompassing: the period of slavery; the era of Reconstruction; the Harlem renaissance; the civil rights movement; and other periods of the African American diaspora.
Nonprofit organizations whose primary purpose is to support museums identified above may also apply.
Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs) are also eligible.

Public and private non-profit museums. Through activities and projects funded, beneficiaries include the general public.

Formula and Matching Requirements
Statutory formulas are not applicable to this program. Matching Requirements: Awards will not exceed $150,000; awards of $25,000 or less do not require matching; awards of more than $25,000 must be matched one-to-one, but the match may include in-kind contributions. MOE requirements are not applicable to this program.
Length and Time Phasing of Assistance

The Institute of Museum and Library Services requires annual interim and final financial and performance reports.

In accordance with the provisions of 2 CFR 200, Subpart F - Audit Requirements, non-Federal entities that expend financial assistance of $750,000 or more in Federal awards will have a single or a program-specific audit conducted for that year. Non-Federal entities that expend less than $750,000 a year in Federal awards are exempt from Federal audit requirements for that year, except as noted in 2 CFR 200.503. In accordance with the provisions of 2 CFR 200, Subpart F - Audit Requirements, nonfederal entities that expend financial assistance of $750,000 or more in Federal awards will have a single or a program-specific audit conducted for that year.
