Michael SaundersIn the year 1968, The Delaware State Housing Authority was created as a public corporation under the Delaware State Department of Housing. The move was inspired by the need to address the concerns of the people in Delaware who seek homebuying-associated assistance.
The programs of the authority are all inspired by its general mission which is to "efficiently provide, and assist others to provide, quality, affordable housing opportunities and appropriate supportive services to responsible low- and moderate-income Delawareans."
Since its creation in 1968, The Delaware State Housing Authority, otherwise referred to as DSHA, has already turned its $100,000 start-up fund into more than $500 million.
At present, the authority has operates by making loans and grants to both for-profit and non-profit housing sponsors; making loans to mortgage lenders and requiring that they use the proceeds to make new residential mortgage loans; applying for and receiving subsidies from the federal government and other sources; and finally, issuing its own bonds and notes.
