Paleontology support to arches and capital reef Intent to Award

A.Utah Geological Survey agrees to:
Arches National Park Paleontological Inventory 1)UGS shall apply for a research and collecting permit to conduct a paleontological field work at Arches National Park.

2)Develop two measured sections of the Chinle Formation at Arches National Park; 3)Provide

the copies of field notes, photographs and any other data to the NPS (on or before December 31, 2014).

Capitol Reef National Park Paleontological Inventory 1)UGS shall apply for a research and collecting permit to conduct a paleontological field inventory at Capitol Reef National Park.

Fieldwork should include the collection of data and significant at risk fossil specimens.

This include three weeks inventorying the following areas for approximately one week each and tying all paleontological sites into their temporal/stratigraphic context:
A)The Morrison and Cedar Mountain Formations exposed in the Cathedral Valley area of Capitol Reef.

UGS paleontologist have recently documented several new dinosaur localities just to the east on BLM lands.

B)The Chinle Formation and lower Glen Canyon Group (Wingate and Kayenta Formations) in the area of the park headquarters around Fruita, Utah.

C)The Chinle Formation and lower Glen Canyon Group (Wingate and Kayenta Formations) in the area along the Burr Trail.

2)Use GIS mapping techniques to develop GIS based maps of paleontological resources and provide GIS data to the NPS upon completion of the work.

GIS data will be provided in a format consistent with NPS standards.

3)Utilizing paleontological locality data in park records supplemented by new information generated by this project, create a Potential Fossil Yield Classification (PFYC) map for the majority of Capitol Reef National Park utilizing the UGS interim geological map for the east side of the Loa 30X60 degree sheet.

4)Provide the following to the NPS (on or before December 31, 2014):
1)copies of field notes, photographs and any other data; 2)GIS maps and base layers produced as a result of this project; 3)draft paleontological inventory report to the NPS (CARE and NPS-Geologic Resources Division) in electronic and paper form upon the completion of field activities; and 4) Paleontological locality condition assessments with recommendations for long-term paleontological resources monitoring.

Photogrammetric documentation will be included for each paleontological locality identified for long-term paleontological resources monitoring.
